Cannabis or most commonly known as “Marijuana” is just one of the many substances that are prone to substance abuse because this substance can be produced through natural planting. Users testified its pain relief effect and other healing benefits. But the most common reason why people consume this substance is because of its psychoactive effects.
Recently a bill legalizing the use of medicinal cannabis has been implemented and half of the states in the U.S. have adopted the same law. Most people worry about the effects of this law legalizing the use of cannabis because people think this will just bring more danger to humanity. But what does the law itself implies? What are the possible advantage and disadvantages that it can bring to society?
This law specifies the legalization of cannabis only for medical use. It means that although it is legal to be using cannabis there are still qualifications and parameters for you to follow. This is for the government to ensure the safety of the state and to avoid any substance abuse that may cause or lead to a different form of crime and accidents.
The law clearly states that for you to be able to buy and consume legally produced medicinal cannabis you have to have a prescription from a doctor or a proof that you need it for medical purposes. The law also strictly implies the limit of the substance per consumer.
As usual, there will still be people who will break the law especially the manufacturers and the importers who wanted to earn a lot from selling pure cannabis because the law implies selling of formulated medicinal cannabis, meaning the concentration of such drugs is not as pure as the naturally produced cannabis. So, this law may just double the number of illegally produced or manufactured cannabis and may even double the number of drug abusers who buy from illegal online dispensaries.
